I sometimes choose to paint something that tells a story, or evokes a memory or emotion. And sometimes it might be something I have seen that makes me smile.
One day when I returned home I was greeted by this charming scene at the end of my street.
Anyone who lives in a French village will know that at certain times of the day the ladies and gentlemen will congregate on benches, either together or separately to catch up on the day’s gossip. So I had to take a quick snap which resulted in this painting. I did, however have a little chuckle to myself as I painted the street sign. There is no sign in reality but I could not resist making a joke and naming it ‘Place de la Guillotine’. The joke is appreciated by both the French and the English who see it. It’s in my gallery with a price tag of 125 euros
The painting on the right was a pastiche of things that, over the years have made me think of
France. You can almost smell the tobacco smoke, taste the coffee and hear the traffic on the Champs Elysée. Sold
Below shows a couple staring into space on a quiet and rather overcast but warm day at Valras Plage. In my gallery for 125 euros
